data loss #5932

Open samuraied opened 7 months ago

samuraied commented 7 months ago

What happened?

i tested the 13 canary 0 release, appimage on linux fedora silverblue latest on amd gpu.

titles were missing and sometimes it would lose a part of the title. eg: chapter 2 would either be untitled or become chap

all tags were removed from every file and collection.

some files no longer had any data in them.

thankfully i had a back up, so i didn't lose anything.

i love this app and i really want it to become better.

if there is any file you need or any log please let me know, i would be happy to help however i can.

hi @samuraied, so sorry to hear that. And we gonna need the following information for helping diagnose your data lost.

samuraied commented 7 months ago

No to both questions, i simply imported some of my notes, all .md format.

If there is a log somewhere you need, let me know.

I specifically came to affine for local first, i don't use cloud sync.

forehalo commented 7 months ago

you mean importing from .md files, and some of them are not correctly parsed and displayed, right?

can I suppose that's not the thing you wrote some paragraphs and reopen, or refresh the page, and you see some of the paragraphs are gone.

if so, that's must be the problem of importing .md files. we're gonna looking into that

samuraied commented 7 months ago

When i imported the files, they opened ok. It was after i closed the program and reopened it that the data was lost.

I also tested writing the .md instead of importing it. I opened a new .md, and pasted in it, gave it a title and a tag, and it too lost data.

This did not happen to one file, but many.

I even created 4 collections, based on one rule, have one of, . And one collection was lost, and the 3 other collections lost all tags, but still grouped together. Despite some files in those same collections losing titles, tags and paragraphs.

It sounds like the data loss is random. It's strange that we haven't encountered this situation before, not sure if it is a Linux client-specific issue.

I don't have a Linux machine around me, so I can't reproduce the problem you mentioned.

If you can reproduce the issue reliably, maybe you can record a screen recording?

samuraied commented 7 months ago

Here is a screenshot of my current workspace,

all the problems i mentioned are here, i did notice that there is an update to canary 1.

The yellow lines are the problems.

Docs, tags and collections

And here is the collection inside having lost the tag filter but kept the files. 3 files lost titles. All of them lost tags.
