Notion Import Freezing #7150

Open jayx8 opened 3 months ago

jayx8 commented 3 months ago

What happened?

When trying to import a zip file from Notion into Affine, I keep running into an issue where it freezes the app and is stuck on "Import" pop-up.

I followed the Affine Doc instructions for import and even waited a few hours thinking it was due to the size.. but after force closing and re-opening, I noticed that half the pages did not import.

macOS ARM 64 (Apple Silicon)

i stumpled accros the same problem. i figured out it was because of errors in the export.

i was able to see the problem with the draw io integration after i looked which file was not uploaded (it only partically imported pages) and then tried it manually and saw the error in the developer console.

@hwangdev97 how does the importing from notion work nowadays, I didn't test through it for a long time

hwangdev97 commented 1 month ago

The import with Notion are currently not working very well.

The expected behavior is that when you click "Export" in Notion, it saves as a zip file. Then, in AFFiNE, you can use the import function, select thezip file, and proceed with the import.

Currently, AFFiNE can successfully import text as expected, but there are still many bugs with images and databases. We need some time to improve this part of the experience.

The similar situation I meet is when I try export Notion page to the local which is not a zip file but a folder, so I import it into Affine after zipping it .zip file. I also tried to import markdown file or html file exported from Notion, but bad formatting of content includes table still happened. It is a painful thing if there are too many things to import in one page .

unitythemaker commented 4 weeks ago

For me, it doesn't import at all. No documents get created even after waiting some time and trying out with different pages. No warnings or alerts are displayed.

unitythemaker commented 4 weeks ago

I just inspected the devtools of my browser and saw this error:

Error: Importing markdown files from Notion is deprecated. Please export your Notion pages as HTML.

However, I agree @most-silence that importing HTML pages results in bad formatting, would be great to both have correct formatting as Markdown but also import all images and files without manual work. It would save me a lot of time to migrate.

Not sure how

@unitythemaker I find a Notion like application which has nice import way. Hope AFFiNE can do this.

I think importing .md files through multiple selections is a feasible workaround
