Check if we actually have source code to compile. #74

It is possible to have a situation where contract directory appears to have source code, but actually has nothing to compile. Proceeding gives a cryptic error message.

Hi, thanks for this PR. We'll close this PR without merging, as we believe that due to the changes introduced in the upcoming 2.2 release this issue is no longer relevant.
