I think the coach mark is enough to explain to the user how the seek bar works. There's ofc always the conflict between trying to be different/new and still being functional and usable. Imo the current playback controls do a very good job in distinguishing the app from other music players out there while still maintaining usability.
Imo the main distinguishing features of Tomahawk are its pluggable sources and Hatchet, as well as the fact that is open source. For me, that's enough to draw me to Tomahawk, but I still prefer more classic controls. Personally, I am trying to replace iTunes on the desktop and various other music players on Android. Tomahawk has some amazing features, but it's not yet to the point where I can consistently use it on mobile, so I flip between Tomahawk, Orpheus, Auro, and (unfortunately) Google Play Music. I can't claim to speak for all the other users, but that's just my personal usage.
If I get some spare time this semester, I hope to contribute to the project. I've been meaning to learn how to develop for android for a while. Keep up the great work, Tomahawk is only going to get more awesome!
The existing playback controls, while certainly minimalist, are somewhat unintuitive with regards to track seeking. An option that allows for a more traditional seek bar would be very welcome for users coming from most other music players. This could also be extended to include standard next/prev buttons as well.
