@grahamperrin I had considered this, I think the ultimate reason I settled on not including it was so that the change felt more permanent. Kind of like making it harder to cheat on a diet. But I have mixed feelings.
I'm curious though, in what situations do you find yourself wanting to switch back and forth?

Personally I guess, the simplest explanation is:
a) I sometimes want to reduce clutter just for a few minutes; and
b) about:addons can be clunky, especially if many extensions are installed.
Less personally, imagine use in an educational environment where a tutor or demonstrator wants viewers to:
Enhancement request
I'd like a way to switch off, switch on the extension without visiting about:addons
A browser action or page action, maybe?
