User rysiek suggested adding a notice to the settings area to say this uses google translate and an enable/disable checkbox: https://mastodon.social/users/rysiek/updates/1902362
I imagine the current flow would be, user installs script, on first reaching a mastodon instance check they've setup settings, if not send an alert to say "hey go settings, opt-in and set your language".
If user opts out but keeps script installed then when #6 is done then we could send alerts to say hey this option is now supported etc. spitballing here.
It's been brought to my attention that I don't signpost that we're using Google Translate as much as I probably should especially since there are a fair amount of users that are privacy focused.
I think for starters more signposting in the readme & comments in the script should help, saying yes we use GoogleTranslate via a proxy and looking into alternatives with #6
