Tagging this as a bug but this may well be an intentional or unavoidable change in behaviour so thought I'd post to check.
I noticed testing the new 1.8 spacing controls ( which are awesome by the way ), now on entering negative values into a field using the minus symbol it switches the field to a text value so you lose the originally selected unit.
This is not the end of the world as I can now manually type it back in as a plain text value. This may well be unavoidable in order to fully support all plain text values, but it does seem to add a slight bit more work now to use negative values regularly and keep having to type the unit back in.

Would love to hear your thoughts on this.
