This feature is available starting from Whirr 0.4.0 [1]. I suggest you should use the latest release because it has many improvements.
Yes, this is because it's an older version of Whirr. Whirr-SCM works with Whirr 0.5.0, which will be available in CDH3u2. In the meantime, the workaround is to download the tarball from Apache.

This still failed for me under 0.5.0, but downloading the 0.6.0 tarball solved the JAR problem.
It doesn't pick up the jar if you dump in /usr/lib/whirr/lib. I know it's an older version of whirr.
