My guess is that you'll probably have to wait for 1.18 to roll out first...
The seeds are supposed to be final now with 21w43a. It would be nice to have a beta release to start searching for good seeds in the new generation system.
Good seeds is going to be interesting, now that villages "work as intended" while spanning extreme vertical space imposed by mountains and chasms. See Mojang issue 239219 for example. I've found floating churches, 20+meter vertical path disconnects, houses in deep chasms, etc. If you like that sort of thing, you're in luck. But it has proved very time-consuming to find villages that looks semi-realistic, just cruising, even in nominally flat biomes (desert, plains, savanna, swamp). AMIDST will help a lot in this endeavor.
Hello, I just updated my Minecraft Overworld Viewer to 1.18 and since I'm also missing a lot Amidst perhaps this other tool might temporarily help someone else (I don't mean to make publicity, just trying to help, since my tool is free). It does not predict biomes, but it does export 5 map types for each region file of a selected dimension and then it can join all the maps into a bigger one, where 1 pixel equals 1 block. Also the "Underground structures" map shows where there dripstone or lush caves biomes based on it's unique blocks. You'll find it here:
https://github.com/Jupisoft111/Minecraft-Overworld-Viewer/releases/tag/2021_11_18_03_26_10_099
Also since Amidst is mostly used to find cool seeds, I just found out by luck the best seed I think I'll ever see: it's "3" or three and it has around spawn more thasn 7000 x 7000 blocks of caves filled with almost infinite dripstoneand lush caves, all mixed. It looks awesome. Also I found out a massive diagonal dripstone pillar that I didn't know existed before, use this teleport code on the seed 3 to find it:
/tp @p -1791 77 340 9 10
I can't wait to try Amidst for 1.18... Thanks a lot and have a nice day :-)

It was released a few days ago. 5-7 days ago, if I'm not mistaken. Now we still need a timeline for when Amidst
will be updated to work with Minecraft 1.8
.

Minecraft 1.18 and Spigot 1.18 were released on November 30. 😎

+/- 1 day, due to timezones.
Given how substantial the changes are to generation in 1.18, I'm guessing it may take a bit of work to update Amidst to support the new version. But I am eagerly hoping/waiting for an update.

Unfortunately, no commit was made in the last 6 months, including no commit was made in the last 6 months, which means likely the work to update AMIDST to 1.18 has not even started.
The Java version mismatch, which has been causing issues with 1.17 compatibility for 6 months and would be a really simple fix, hasn't even been addressed. The complete silence from the devs makes me wonder if AMIDST is even still being maintained.
If anyone has the technical knowledge of Mojang's code and is feeling inspired, you could always make a fork of AMIDST with 1.18 functionality. One example of such a fork is kahomayo's amidst-infdev, which extends AMIDST's functionality to work with Minecraft versions as far back as the March 27th, 2010 version of infdev, showing different elevation levels as "biomes" since these pre- Alpha 1.2.0 versions lacked actual biomes.
This fork actually added the ability to view worlds from Alpha 1.2.0 to Beta 1.7.3 before the official AMIDST was updated with this functionality, and now that I look at AMIDST's commit history, it looks like kahomayo's implementation was ultimately incorporated into the main program. So if you make a fork with 1.18 functionality before the devs make their own implementation, who knows? Maybe it'll get implemented.
EDIT: Now that I think of it, this would also be a great opportunity to add visualization of nether biomes, as they use the multinoise system too.
FYI: Chunkbase has been updated for 1.18. Not a fan of its UI, but at least there is something.
So, any ETA for amidst 1.18? Or is it true that work hasn't even started?
As you can see, the most recent commit was 6 months ago.
I sure do hope moulins is doing well and is simply just taking a break and nothing worse than just ignoring us.
anyone willing to carry on the torch? i really do feel like i can't start a minecraft server world without amidst to show me some nice starter community island in the middle of a lake (ocean)

It was mentioned above, use Chunkbase for the time being. I did that and it's quick enough to find a starter map seed for your needs.
(Amidst allowed me to automated that step in the past though.)

i tried to, not being able to run that fullscreen on a UHD screen is very limiting to finding what i want to find for our world./ which is a sizable island in the middle of a lake with no attached land to the outer land mass. i want to have a starter island with some community center'ish build but everyone's got to get off the lawn and find thier own place that isn't there.
i will try.
You can try MineMap. I don't have a link handy, but it is also on GitHub. It does have some issues (I don't think everyone experiences them), but I found that it's pretty useful.
https://github.com/hube12/Minemap ? or another? I saw a few but this looked well developed but sadly doesn't do 1.18 yet.

I also tried that one, and it only does 1.17.1, sadly. I don't even know how to change the version of the seed (from 1.17.1), with it.
Edit: I found out how to change the version, but 1.17.1 is the latest version so far.
1.18 has been out for a few months now, hasn't it? I wonder what's going on behind the scenes regarding Admist, or if the devs are just taking a break.

Cubiomes Viewer is another great alternative
i still prefer and miss Amidst over others. they just are not amidst.
1.19 is out already, and Amidst still isn't updated for even 1.18, let alone for 1.19. The latest update to Amidst was 12 months ago.
Not really a issue but just wondering how long it will take to update to 1.18 world gen. Thanks for Amidst, its such and amazing little program.
