Suggestions for improving the functionality of OSC #276

I recently started learning tooll3, which combines many advantages of vvvv and touchdesigner. I am in the process of transitioning my workflow to it.

My question is about the osc function. First of all, I noticed that it only has osc in and not osc out (I am quite sure this is already on your development plan).

And my main question is whether osc in now only supports float, and not string or int, because I often need to use osc to transmit radar information or touch positions between different computers. It would be very helpful for practical use if there could be support for strings.

I really love tooll3, grateful for your work.

hi @kyy921 . Nice meeting you. We're in the process of reworking some of the IO-concepts of T3. At the moment we're focusing on Midi-inputs. But all changes are done explicitly with OSC and potential reference types like strings in mind.

We hope to ship those features with the next release of T3.

Hi, I discover t3 after experiment with vvvv and search a floss alternative that run on linux (that work well in wine).

Is the IO rework can allow more IO, as TUIO, sensors / serial, gesture or touch devices ?

Thank you for this tooll that seem very cool.

Hi @wargreen added more IO is slowly progressing. As for TUIO support is still missing. Do you have a concrete project in mind how to use it?

Not for now directly, but i work on live shows and i have sometime some projects that mix multimedia installation, music, interaction.... So i search for a tool(3?) that is free (as speech) and that allow to grab all kind of input (low and hi level : pure osc, midi, audio, dmx, artnet or kinekt, leapmotion or....) and output video, artnet or other visual stuff in live.

More precisely, on one project i think to use tool3 for input audio and control in osc or tuio for move some pieces of sounds in relation with the place of the peoples in the space, theses sounds are represented by video at the floor and move with the ambisonic sound.

Another is just make some electronic noise jam with friends and make and generative video on the wall :)

We added a lot of new features to OSC which will be part of the next release.

Thanks !

Sadly, i only use FLOSS, so i prefer use matrix or IRC for talk. Is it a chan on a free tool for talk about a free tool3 ?

I'm sorry for the late response. I can understand your hesitation. On the other hand, Discord is currently the primary channel for discussion. Of course there is also github, but this is also neither free nor open.

If i open a matrix room, we maybe can bridge it with the discord chan ?

domportera commented 6 days ago

while that's technically possible, it wouldn't really serve anyone's privacy any more than creating an email alias would and doesn't seem worthwhile to maintain. it would also create a rift in functionality between matrix and discord users - maybe those who use matrix would be aware of this but something as simple as "check out my screen share" becomes an ordeal
