My comment from slack:
Current rules: https://apps.topcoder.com/wiki/display/tc/General+Software+Competitions+Guidelines
Copilots follow the existing rules, but if the pm is copiloting I get response like "sorry we dont change scores"
Even if the reviewer writes "please confirm with the copilot, i am ok to raise score"
birdofpreyru comment from slack:
What exactly do you want to discuss about re-appeals? Just an official update of the rules and their synchronization between co-pilots and managers? I see there a larger problem that it is not an optional part of the official flow, i.e. if some participant starts re-appealing in his private communications with copilot, others don't know about it. So, the 1-st place winner, probably, also can bring something to re-appeals, but he does not, because he is already 1-st place, and does not see a reason to bother anybody more, and it can be a surprise for him, if the 2-nd place has successfully re-appealed and became 1-st now. So, it should be smth like if somebody hits Make Re-appeal
, all participants are notified, and also participate, if they have something to re-appeal.
CAB MEETING
We need a more formalized process to reappeal - different copilots and managers handle this differently.
If copilot discovers there is a valid reappeal, copilot should announce to everyone that valid reappeal is happening. If there is a placement change, should be communicated to member who is effected by it.
Training and Certification would solve this.
Future - better mechanism / notifications
Nick - meeting with adam/mess to discuss process
+1 for announcing about a re-appeal to all participants (this exact thing happened to me once - I lost my 1st place because I did not know about a re-appeal happening although I could also bring something to re-appeals and maybe the placement would not change. Ironically, birdofpreyru was the one who did the re-appeal and became 1st place ;) )
@kondakovdmitry Sorry about that.
I also had similar situation before, when I was 1-st going to sleep, and woke up 2-nd in the morning :)
@wdprice and I are discussing a formal policy that will be introduced in the Help Center upon completion. We will present our first draft in the next CAB Meeting.
To be transparent: We are attempting to come to a solution that benefits both the customer (completion time of a challenge) and members (fairness).
1st Meeting (@wdprice and @hokienick) - 06/30
It appears that the re-appeal policy was not what the community had been assuming all along
