Please close this issue without explanation. I do not use a debug build. I just wanted this to be mentioned somewhere for the people having a similar problem.
Device: Xiaomi Mi9T PRO (raphael) -
Android version: Unofficial Lineage OS 18.0 ROM (Android 11)
Magisk version name: 27008
Magisk version code: 4f18a66d
I would like to just report that in the previous month, I wanted to update my old Magisk to v27. It failed to do via direct install in the app and instead it unrooted my phone. So I did a fresh install using the patch method. All was successful. Yesterday, I got a notification in the app that an update to v28 is available. I installed it via direct install, but after reboot, the phone was stuck at the MI logo, adb did not work. Luckily, I was able to boot into fastboot. I tried to flash the patched v27 boot img that I had from last month, but the phone was still stuck. Then I tried to flash the unpatched boot img with the hope it will start working. It did not. So I booted into twrp.img to see if at least that works and to read the logs. Then I rebooted and suddenly, it booted into system. :tada: Then I flashed the patched v27 boot image again. That worked as well, but the magisk app was complaining that I should update magisk. Since I now had access to the magisk app, I patched the boot.img and flashed the patched v28 boot img. Now all works as expected. Killed me a few hours, I was a bit worried I'd loose data. But in the end all worked out. Maybe somebody goes through a similar process but did not have luck with the boot after twrp as me. So I am just basically documenting it here.
