Hey Jah,
Yes, your understanding is correct. I am working on building the feature to address this need and will update as soon as I can. Hopefully no later than Wednesday. If it is absolutely urgent, please let me know the task and user, and I can try to disable it on my end. Thanks!

Some students inform us in advance that they will miss some classes, or sometimes they reschedule their test times. So we are trying to find a way to stop sending the SMS notification of that class to that particular student. However when I went to task and deleted user from it, the user was not removed from task (group's command must have over-ridden it). Is there any way we can deal with this?

This feature is now available. Check it out and let me know if there are issues. Briefcase->Tasks->Outbound->x (CC'ing Jah on this)

This is a great starting point! Will allow us to track individual SMS.
Next steps would be to specify conditional logic that is dependent on removing the set task for a student. For example, system should raise a red flag that the student needs to schedule a makeup or needs another task - then point them in the correct direction.
Going to close this issue - and moving to a new issue involving logic around this ability.
