Remove config for Reaction (rq3.com) #11

Seems like a dead game now, please let me know if you think it should be kept around.

I found this Discord server for Reaction Quake 3: https://discord.gg/amyFXv3 and it looks like there is someone active in there. Maybe we can try to ask them for some infos...

Ehm... I'm not very informed about reactionquake3, maybe I tried the mod a couple of times 20 years ago. Idk if it's supposed to still work as a simple mod, or you need to use its custom binaries or what... And I don't know whether its master server should be the original q3 one or another one...

What should I tell/ask in that Discord?

I downloaded the game from rq3.com, it was standalone. But it didn't even start on my PC, I got a log with some GLSL errors. I guess you could ask if there are any servers still up, as I didn't find any.

Hello everybody! Coming back to try ReactionQ3 after many years, I downloaded the package from the official site and saw it's standalone now (by the way, trying to copy "boomstick" folder into q3a and starting it as a mod, Q3 1.32c binaries aren't capable of loading its qvm, while ioquake3 binaries can). Now, are there Reaction servers up? The in-game server browser shows NO servers if using the provided binaries and 3 servers if using ioquake3 binaries -but I can't connect to any of them, 2 due to lacking the map and 1 due to it seemingly being a "threewave" q3 mod instead-. Any hint?

Let's see if they answer something...

After my question in that Discord, a guy contacted me via direct message, telling me he's the author of the RQ3 Reloaded fork of the mod, while if I understood correctly, the main one will not be updated anymore. His RQ3 Reloaded fork can be got from these places: https://www.moddb.com/mods/rq3-reloaded-hd-overhaul/downloads/rq3-reloaded, https://wrong-place.net/index.php/reaction-q3/, it's 900+ MBs and he says it includes hi-res textures and custom binaries, and you need to add q3's pak0 to it. I haven't actually tried it yet. He says he's got his server up all the time and he's got his own Discord: https://discord.gg/x68kfRm

I haven't tested this stuff yet.

Thanks! I get only one server in the in-game browser, 51.15.26.38:27969, and I am able to join it. The server is listed on the main Q3 master, so just typing "rq3" in the game field in MB will show it.

When it comes to adding a configuration for this game I think I will just wait and see if it gains popularity.

I tried RQ3 Reloaded and managed to have it work with classic Q3 binaries, like a standard mod (copying the RQ3 folder from the .rar into quake3). Fine, although when connecting it had to download another 16 MB file, I guess it was the current map.

However I can see that a mod with a single server isn't worth an entry in the list. I think you're right for looking again at it in the future.

By the way, I didn't know you can manually type in the mod field to create a quick filter "on the fly", if you don't match exactly the name of an existing entry. Is it mentioned somewhere in documentation? I just tried it, and I can see it then keeps all your quick filter words in the dropdown list until you close and open MB again (you may find one after re-opening it, in case you had not switched to a "standard" entry before closing the problem). Nice feature, although it has got an huge limitation I cannot think about a way to workaround: as far as I can tell, the quick filter only applies to the query on the default master server (the one of quake 3 arena), so you cannot apply quick filter to other games, such as OpenArena, World of Padman or Smoking Guns...
