*had to update formating a little because of git auto stuff.. sorry if out of whack

Suggested new command: Discussion: When buying something from a shop, it is only natural for the vendor to tell you about the item before you buy it. It should be made easier for people to buy things and know what they are. without buying it then spending money on a Id scroll too. Can easily add a switch for no-id items.

Command: Syntax: appraise < item > <seller(optional)> : Show details of shop item. (Identify the item)

If appraise is approved or not, still suggest consolidating help files (update respectively of appraise disposition)

Suggest help file update:

help List|Buy|Sell|Value|Appraise - should bring you to the same help file with all the information

These commands are used for making purchases or selling items in the various shops found around Faerun. The prices in these shops will be affected slightly by how personable you are and how charismatic you are.

Syntax:
list : Gives you a listing of a shop's wares and prices (1) value < item > : Shows approximate value if sold (not always accurate) appraise < item > : Gives an explanation of what the item is (identify sell < item > : Sells the item in question (2) buy < item > : Purchase an item from shop or buy < quantity > < seller > < item > < container name > This syntax deposits your purchase directly into the bag of your choice, without having the need to buy individual items repeatedly.

Specifying a shopkeeper will provide a list of the specified shopkeeper when there are more than one vendors in a room. sell < item > < seller > buy < item > < seller >

Also, auctioneer should tell you what an item is for free, or else how does he get you to bid on it...

marthammor commented 4 years ago

There is a reason there is a fee to id stuff on auction. It prevents people from using it to id stuff for free. If there were ever a command added to shops to id stuff (good idea) that likely also would not be free.

Uagr commented 4 years ago

why not? not everyone bots plat you know or has a db of eq. what purpose of charging people for the id? shops/auctioners would tell you all about it.

Would you spend 5k on having a mechanic check out a car before you bought it from a dealership? how about something simple... buying a TV, what if you couldn't get any information online or from the store, the only way you get info is after buying it from the store and reading the manual......

charging people a ton to ID from stores/auction is just wrong... we already ID a lot of things using scrolls and pay for it... we already have inflated auction prices because of plat bots, not like we need a money sink.... if we do need a money sink, ID is not the answer.

marthammor commented 4 years ago

Charging for ID is part of the game economy, whether it be from the auction, a shop function, the cost of an ID scroll, or the time of a player to memorize and cast the spell. The game does need plat sinks, either 5 plat here and there or larger sinks that are being considered. The plat botting has gotten out of hand and we're working on ways to help with that, but nothing we've settled on or can share at this time. Not going to close this because it does have merit, its just not a direction we're looking to go at this time.

Though I see your point with plat, still going to disagree respectfully :) - However still think appraise is valid, as is consolidated helpfile, just charge for the appraise i guess, dam greedy shopkeeps :)
