Virus detector misrecognizes Krita files as viruses #28

Downloads for .kra files are registered as viruses by McAfee

Okay. I mean, that's not too surprising :P Virus detectors misrecognize files all the time. This would be a security issue.. if the files were actually executable viruses. But they're just Krita files, and I'll be shocked if McAfee is looking at ways that a Krita file might attack your computer if you were to open it in Krita. If you're worried, though, you can open the files in a virtual machine.

It would be nice to get this fixed so you don't get the warning, though. I don't have experience with McAfee - could it be that the issue is that the file was downloaded from florrie.ed1.club, which isn't a domain McAfee recognizes as "trustworthy"? Does downloading the file from GitHub (e.g. by clicking "View Raw" on this page) still show the warning? (Or maybe McAfee doesn't look at download locations at all; that wouldn't be too surprising.)

I'm pretty sure this issue is totally out of my control, though. You'll probably just have to dismiss the warning.

Edit - just to clarify, are kra totally files blacklisted by McAfee, no matter where you get them from? I might be misunderstanding your issue report. If that's the case, the solution for you is probably just to make McAfee recognize kra files as not viruses (although I have no idea how to do that, sorry :P).

It said in the download thing at the bottom left corner in chrome "virus detected". McAfee scans all downloaded files to make sure they are safe.

@amazinigmech2418 Okay, good to know. I don't think I can do anything about this but give you my word that the files are safe, as long as you're opening them with Krita. There's not much I can do about McAfee seeing my files as not safe. It's sort of like if people were asking me to add a lock to my (imaginary) safe, but they just can't see the lock, which is on the bottom of the safe. So my safe ends up looking not secure to them, even though it is secure. Same deal with McAfee - it thinks my files are viruses, because they look like viruses to it, but they aren't.
