Problem with luaL_register

make is failing with following error:

/root/hopmod/src/hopmod/lua/register_class.cpp: In function ‘void 
lua::register_class(lua_State*, const char*, const luaL_Reg*)’:

‘luaL_register’ was not declared in this scope
     luaL_register(L, NULL, member_functions);
                                            ^
make[2]: *** [src/CMakeFiles/lua_modules.dir/hopmod/lua/register_class.cpp.o] 
Error 1
make[1]: *** [src/CMakeFiles/lua_modules.dir/all] Error 2
make: *** [all] Error 2

looks like the function luaL_register is depraced?!
