Error when starting vim 'Undefined variable: head' #308

After updating to the latest revision, I get the following error when starting vim:

E121: Undefined variable: head
E116: Invalid arguments for function empty(head)
E15: Invalid expression: !empty(head)

Loading the plugin using pathogen. VIM - Vi IMproved 8.0 (2016 Sep 12, compiled Mar 13 2018 06:36:50) macOS version Included patches: 1-1600 Compiled by Homebrew
