TagType Values #27

Specifically how do we map Official Vaccination Tags? Do we make a distinction from other NEUS9 tags? They do have different markings and the information could be useful.

Breed Registration Numbers? Here we get into that issue of the number type vs. the thing carrying the number. Other examples 840 numbers in visual tags, rfid tags, or microchips.

Are you taking other than Brucellosis? Or Brucellosis tags?

Yes, the only ones I come across are Brucellosis tags. The numbers have the NNAAANNNN format.

I'll weigh in on the Brucellosis Vaccination Tags, using @mkm1879's format above of NNAAANNNN, USDA has defined that the first A always be a 'V'. In the event that the state runs out of the 'V' series, then 'S' and 'T' are set aside to use as back-up. So technically, no states should begin the 3 letter series with V, S, or T unless that tag represents a Brucellosis Vaccination Tag. IF states are holding to this, that would make it easy to define which tags are silver/brites and and which are orange/brucellosis tags.

As far as breed registration numbers, perhaps those would only be mapped (?) if they fit into the USDA's definition of an American ID (since that is currently an official ID and unique) meaning it would start with 'USA' followed by 8-9 digits. Other breed registration numbers could be confused with DHIA tags by a computer. DHIA tags are not official (unless DHIA is using a NUES tag sequence, but they are commonly using number only tags in many states) and we wouldn't want those mapped to an official tag.

11/19/2013 Update: Minnesota's Animal ID Coordinator confirmed for me that USDA does not hold any states or tag manufacturers to limiting the use of the 'S' and the 'T' to Brucellosis vaccination tags. For our system, just knowing the tag is NUES9 is good enough for us.

All the list we current have is as follows:

UN
AIN
AMID
BRAND
BRAND-IMAGE
BT
IMP
MGT
N840RFID
NUES8
NUES9
OFORID
OTH
NAME
SGFLID
NPIN
TAT

Can we move this discussion towards some specific suggestions (e.g. "Add VACC") -- we'll discuss on today's call.

It has just come to my attention that the state vets have been talking about allowing some mature swine to travel on Swine Premises ID tags. These were originally just intended to ID slaughter sows/boars back to the production farm. But if these are not going to slaughter, they may need to be listed on CVIs. And we might like to be able to single these out from OTHER.

Thoughts? Other than the NASAHO are out of their minds? <I didn't say that>
