Sorry for the lack of communication & transparency on our part. We are in the midst of a change in leadership around this program right now, so it's difficult to answer your question definitively.
We historically have allowed only a few external developers access to this API on a very limited case-by-case basis. Expanding our TradeStation API access has been a goal since its inception and continues to be a part of our road-map. However, before the TradeStation API can be opened-up to the masses, investment is required to deliver an API product that meets the high standards that TradeStation customers demand.
At the moment, this program is on-hold while we re-evaluate our next steps. I know this is disappointing and isn't made clear on the Developer website, but it is the most honest answer I can give you right now.
Customer feedback is the greatest driver of what we deliver each year, so the best way to influence re-opening the TradeStation API is by sharing your thoughts and opinions on the importance and value you see in this product.
Thank you.
"Lack of communication and transparency..." - no kidding!
Lance, thanks for the update.
I want to be able to write a standalone application that accesses the user's past orders, so the app can slice and dice the data in a very different way than TradeStation does. Currently, I am doing this in TradeStation, but writing in Easy Language is much more cumbersome than using Visual Studio / C#.
I would like to jump in line for access. The Web API looks awesome and was one of the main reasons I created a Tradestation account.
I much much MUCH prefer to program against this API (which looks great) vs. using the desktop app and Easylanguage. It opens up a ton of flexibility for different strategies, manipulating data, hosting options, etc.
Seriously, if you guys open up access, you'll be the only broker with a legit web API. I'd bet there are tons of devs currently slogging around with IB's antiquated API would make the jump in a heartbeat. I suspect there are a ton of younger trader/devs who understand working with Web API's but not native asyc programming (IB) or the Easylanguage paradigm that would jump at something like this as well.
Consider Stripe... they were the first payment processor with a truly developer friendly API and they are killing it. You guys could be that for the next generation of retail algo traders.
As always, I'm more than willing to help with beta testing, feedback, etc, at any time.
Thanks!
Hello, i am trying to connect python to Trade Station API in order to get live Forex market into python. P.S: i already have an account in Trade Station.
@lancehunt Any updates ?
Hey,
I opened a TradeStation account for the sole purpose of using the API in python and try some automated trades too. Do keep us posted on when this is open for the masses. I haven't been able to find out the procedure to procure this too. Can anyone shed some light on this?
Thanks!
Hello folks, It seems to me that the T.S. people are Very busy with other things, or have decided that Python is not interesting. Relative to the substances that I.B. At GitHub here things are completely "sleepy". I'm wrong?
For what its worth I recently tried to get an API Key and was told that the account must have assets worth 100k to be eligible for accessing the WebAPI, seriously guys, wow, in my experience I have never seen anything as such !!
Yeah, I was told the same thing. Deposit 100k for webapi. Seriously, when there are so many brokers offering easy API access, I don't understand why tradestation makes barrier to entry hard.
sargun, did you had to deposit 100k?
First of all, get congratulations on being a favorite user who has been given access to a service that Trade Station probably tries to hide at the level of atomic secrets. Or they have a fear that people will abandon the use of E.L .. Clearly there is something sick here that they are busy hiding like North Korea's Jong Un. When you write TOS what do you mean? Thoracic Outlet Syndrome ? If you are not allowed to tell about the API, can you give a hint here in which route you managed to get the permission? Simply, I'm a minute before leaving T.S. for the benefit of entities that let work and work open and willing to make another attempt to gain access to an API that will allow me to connect from a Python environment.
Regards,

I got access to the API. IT's really good for a retail API. I can't say much because of the ToS, but it works well.

is the tradestation api open to new users at this point or no
Lance I have been trying to get some info on when TS will open the API back up to developers. Can you shed some light on that? I see you updated some of the docs Aug 1, so I assume the project is not dead.
Thank you. Terrence
