traitecoevo / modeladequacy

The purpose of this project is to develop an approach to evaluate the fit of continuous trait evolution models and to apply this approach to angiosperm functional trait data.

figures #66

hey gang,

here is a layout of what I am thinking re:figures:

  1. Conceptual figure representing all of the steps involved in assessing model adequacy (need to think hard about how to do this right).
  2. Fancy tree plot showing distribution of data across the phylogeny. Pared down version of ksi figure.
  3. Using one clade/model combination as an example, show the observed summary statistic versus the distribution of simulated for all six summary statistics. Was thinking of the case I found where two clades had similar OU support but very different model adequacy for OU models. I think this helps makes it clear how this differs from model selection.
  4. Distribution of AICw model support between BM, OU and EB. We agreed that a ternacular plot doesn't make all that much sense. will redesign something
  5. Some way of representing the distribution of p-values across all 3 traits and all 6 summary stats. Want to avoid 18-panel fig but could perhaps do this elegantly. (ML only)
  6. Correlation plot showing the correlations between the different summary statistics across all clades. Want to include this to demonstrate that they are not capturing completely overlapping information
  7. The size - mahalanobis distance plot

Then in the supplement, Figs 4-7 for the Bayesian components.

Please let me know what you think.

I'm glad we removed the PGLS if we already have 7 figures.

mwpennell commented 10 years ago

yep. definitely agree. but given that this is a relatively meaty paper, i think 7 is alright.

I like it. Let me know how I can help.

ok great. showed this to luke today and we mocked up some figures to go with these. running what will hopefully be the final analyses right now. will try to draft up figs 3-7 tomorrow. what i need help on is the tree figure (rich's speciality) and coming up with a nice conceptual figure for 1. not sure what to do for this.

For the fancy tree plot:
