Species lines use species median latitude, while GBIF observation like uses all GBIF. All the species on Antarctic and close to North Pole have less extreme populations so their median latitude is less extreme than the most polar observation.
If this looks weird maybe it's best to cut the GBIF line off further from the poles since it's driven by very few observations at the really crazy latitudes?
That makes sense, so maybe it would be an idea to drop off the extremes.
Perhaps we could alter the thickness of the lines to account for sampling intensity?
having line thickness indicate sampling intensity was one of Amy's suggestions too. Worth looking at I think
