I'm using the flatpak version on steam deck and some games will happily be edited and stay edited like id software titles like doom 1993 and wolfenstein 3d, some only seem to work every other reboot like katamari damacy reroll and we love katamari reroll, and then some flat out refuse to acknowledge edits and retain the original metadata like sonic adventure dx and sonic adventure 2

This could be Flatpak weirdness or something Steam Deck-specific. There could be some caching going on with Big Picture (or "Steam Deck Game Mode") and/or Big Picture could be inherently overwriting things.

It would be interesting to know if this affects the Steam Client in Desktop Mode, or if it affects you on your Linux PC.

Also fwiw, there is a section on the Readme noting:

All the changes are local and are bound to be overwritten by Steam sooner or later. That's why the program keeps track of your changes, and can silently patch them back in if you ask it to do so.
