Make it impossible to votekick new players #756

Closed bunniewormy closed 4 years ago

bunniewormy commented 4 years ago

Current in-game behaviour.

Half of the negative reviews on steam for this game are about toxic community/votekicks or noritox's alts

Proposed Change

Make it impossible to votekick new players (perhaps less than 1 or 2 weeks played)

Additional context

If you think this will cause trolls and griefers to keep making new accounts, then that's an argument for needing more OKSAs

This would definitely cause issues with trolls and griefers. Adding more OKSA is not a solution; games can be ruined in seconds & regardless of how many (active) oksa you add, it is not realistic to expect there to always be one online on the server (and if they have to be summoned from Discord, the game was already ruined by the griefer/troll prior to the admin joining).

Something more realistic, however, would be to add warnings for the "Griefing" and "Teamkilling" kick reasons, i.e. when choosing these reasons for a new player, don't start the vote but show a popup explaining it is a new player, and if they're sure that player is misbehaving on purpose, they can cast the vote again and it won't be stopped.

how is it not realistic to expect there to always be one online on the server? ctf eu servers are only populated after 2 pm on weekdays

Mazey commented 4 years ago

There are too many factors involved in having 1 or more humans from a certain trusted group of people actively playing and moderating in every active official server at all times.

Vam-Jam commented 4 years ago

The chance of this ever being considered is low.

At the end of the day, your giving people a tool to exploit, vote to kick immunity. People will just make new accounts to take advantage of this. Vote to kick exists to give players a tool to administrate the server when the contains no admins.

We could make vote to kick require more votes for new players, but then again you fall into the same problem of, its giving people a way to greif and not get punished.

Like somebody said on discord, instead of making players immune to kicks, fix tutorials and teach players how to be good instead of giving them a guard against being punished for having the stupid

bunniewormy commented 4 years ago

people will still call newbies retarded and votekick them, no matter how good the tutorial is, unless toxic people actually start getting harsh punishments

asumagic commented 4 years ago

OKSAs can just cancel votes and investigate themselves, that's what they usually do already anyway.

If you think this will cause trolls and griefers to keep making new accounts, then that's an argument for needing more OKSAs

Sure, but you need a quite significant amount of players to be able to cover official servers 24/7, and the subset of the community willing and able to moderate well is finite

We would need to have a strong modding team for this suggestion to work.

Adding this in isnt the hard part, it would only take a few mins for somebody to get it working.

The hard part as everybody pointed out before is having enough admins to prevent the alt abuse.

Trumbles commented 4 years ago

Fair argument. New players should be given a friendly experience, not a toxic one. A toxic environment is the only reason we ever needed so much mod abuse.

Harrison-Miller commented 4 years ago

It's a good thought but the potential for abuse is to high, and having more OKSAs online is not a solution we can guarantee or code into the game.
