Are you using the LiveCD or Embedded version?
stanjanssen.94 - FreeNAS 8 is based on Python + DJango and I don't think has an
extension menu at all. Not sure what version you are actually using, but it
should say on the main page when you access the WebGUI.
I'll get a VM going this weekend and see if I can narrow this down.

I've installed FreeNAS (fully) with a CD. When I enter the Web Admin. Interface
I can see all the menu's, including Extensions. But it simply won't "drop down"
like the rest does. So I am unable to select "RSS".
I've been "googling" around and can't find any other RSS-solutions for FreeNAS
8.x, but will do some more research then.
Thanks for your help so far.

I believe I found the reason. The information below is directed to tresni
PHP code is not my strong area so please rectify any errors, you should however
get the general idea from the below statements :)
The menu item "RSS" does not show up under Extensions because either the
symlink between the file locations are not set up properly or the files are not
copied correctly. I am such a php noob that I can't tell which is the intended
procedure but I would guess that symlinking is preferred.
I have not tested if I have full functionality yet but at least I have the menu
items after moving /path-to-rss-extension-files/RSS/www/* to /usr/local/www/*
and renaming all the rss_* files to extension_rss_*
I also copied /path-to-rss-extension-files/RSS/sys/* to /usr/local/sys/* and
edited /etc/crontab to run /usr/local/sys/cron.sh instead of the original path.
This obviously means I have a more static installation than simply symlinking
into the share as specified in the instructions and that a manual deletion of
all files is necessary in order to uninstall / upgrade.

I'll try embedded. I always use LiveCD (even when I install to disk) so that
may be why I'm not seeing the same behavior when I test. It sounds like
strife242 is correct and something is not working or being overwritten when
setting the symlinks at install.

I also have this issue - after an install of RSS-FreeNAS70-31072010.tgz with
install-FreeNAS70.php following the instructions. I tried the install on a full
version of 0.7.2 Sabanda (revision 5543).
I get the appropriate info when running install.php, same as described at
http://sourceforge.net/apps/phpbb/freenas/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=1186&start=200#p4
0552 but although the extensions menu appears, mouseover or click doesn't
display the RSS item under the menu.
I tried creating the symlinks manually but couldn't get the menu to appear.

Running into the same ish. FreeNAS Full 0.7.9. Tried solution offered by
strife242 and the RSS extensions option appeared in the menu, but clicking on
it gets me 404'd. Noticed the browser is trying to look for
'extension_RSS_*.php' so I prepended all the RSS php files with 'extension_'
and at least I have access. Will update on whether or not it works.

Found the problem. I b0rked the RSS.tgz download file. I've uploaded a new
RSS.tgz that will work, you probably have an RSS folder where you downloaded
everything too, that can be deleted.

I'll reinstall it this afternoon and will let you know if everything is okay.
Thanks a lot (perhaps a bit in advance ;) )
Great feature though.
