This might not be as difficult as it sounds. 

I'll look at the possibility of implementing this on the SMC mobile catalog.

Upon further review, Z39.50 connections are not ideal for the task. 

As far as I know we would be unable to retrieve bib recordnum's. I cannot think 
of another way to ensure that a 
request will retrieve one, and only one, record.
