ggnetwork development appears to be dead given no response on either pull request addressing the drop problem: https://github.com/briatte/ggnetwork/pull/20

ggraph or tidygraph (https://github.com/thomasp85/tidygraph) seem like viable options. The later is still in GitHub only stage
