How about new changes in an experimental branch? #160

@trogdoro writes in the Kickstarter campaign update

I haven't been pushing to github (or even committing locally) as the changes I'm making are often pretty wild and experimental. The next push to github will me a ginormous one like the last one. It would be painful to have to sort through which of them to commit, and the git history would be schizophrenic to follow. I am backing up to a safe place though.

Apparently, Git (and GitHub) has something called branches. A year of no activity on a repository may hint the death of the project and users lose faith and hope.

[spits mouthful of water in your face out of sheer surprise] Branches, you say??

A year of no activity on a repository may hint the death of the project and users lose faith and hope

Probably in most cases that would be an indication of a lull (or even death) of a project. But in those cases there likely isn't someone burning through their life savings while working 12 hour days on the project and thinking/dreaming about it most nights (ask my wife) for the last 3+ years.

There are big things coming on the Xiki horizon in the coming weeks, several of which were listed in that kickstarter comment. Among other features, Xiki is going to have a package manager that will let us all share and collaborate on Xiki commands. At that point the code of the packages we make and share with each other will be a lot more interesting than the source of Xiki itself. (Just as most people spend more time using and making node modules than modifying the source code of node itself).

Despite our sarcastic repartee I will probably put the new Xiki code into a branch as I'm alpha testing it with people, so I'll leave this issue open.

This is really exciting, Craig!

Looking forward to the release, and to helping write new Xiki commands.

Great to hear! I honestly thought this was dead due to inactivity, good to know that there is something going on.

@trogdoro I'm sorry to hear you're burning through your life savings and most of your energy/sleep. Perhaps instead of a one-time Kickstarter campaign and then having the fear of running out of money or time, consider starting a Patreon sponsorship (https://www.patreon.com) to create stability and bring back peace of mind, that can help you make the best decisions. I have seen a few instances where it really helped remove the "sprint" feeling. A project like this is much more like a marathon.
