Minecraft is a game that is very popular. Some functionalities such as Multiplayer games may require a dedicated server infrastructure.
The game’s developer has developed a new platform named bedrock that is much more widely available than the legacy edition. Legacy availability is limited to PC, but bedrock is available on PCs, Phones, Tablets and Game Consoles.
itzg developer on docker hub has made such server for both older legacy/java and newer bedrock platform.
The current issue is for player on newer bedrock platform that currently can only instal the itzg/minecraft-server on the TrueNas Scale package store. TrueNas team should implement the newer itzg/minecraft-bedrock-server alongside the legacy version. A lot of players like on mobile and game console rely on the bedrock edition of the server so it is very important TrueNas supports it, furthermore TrueNas Scale already supports docker images as package and there should be no problem or difficulties to add it.
It was available via TrueCharts, adding such packages would benefits all the customers that thought that TrueCharts was a safe app catalogue.
Please, TrueNas Scale team, add this package !
I completely agree with the points raised by @RemyDG0. Minecraft’s popularity spans across various platforms, and the Bedrock edition’s availability on PCs, phones, tablets, and game consoles makes it essential for TrueNas Scale to support the itzg/minecraft-bedrock-server.
Given that TrueNas Scale already supports Docker images, adding this package should be straightforward and would greatly benefit the community. Many players rely on the Bedrock edition, especially those on mobile and game consoles. Including this package would ensure that TrueNas Scale remains a versatile and user-friendly platform for all Minecraft enthusiasts.
Please, TrueNas Scale team, consider adding the itzg/minecraft-bedrock-server package to support the growing needs of your users!
This was available on TrueCharts, I am expecting this package to make its way back to my TrueNas Install
Does this have any traction?
@mwwgithub I hope so, as far as I am aware this is the only way to try to make that happen. The TrueCharts incident left me in an uncomfortable position... because of that package exclusive availability via TruCharts.
Please consider adding this to the Community train: Minecraft Bedrock Dedicated Server with selectable version https://github.com/itzg/docker-minecraft-bedrock-server
