This can be closed most likely. In 2017, the latest pySMART release on PyPI did not contain this commit yet, which removed all OS-specific code: https://github.com/truenas/py-SMART/commit/d4bedec8e2a1e4516ade1dcc9e81a4214b122732 E.g. I see an array there which defines minimum smartctl versions, but only for Windows, Linux and FreeBSD.

I'm sure this is a known issue, but as of this version Darwin doesn't seem to be on the "supported os" list in utils.py
