ST had been designed at the age of flatbed scanning. And with such scanner it makes perfect sense to do turning, cutting and deskew. And it will be enough, as page (except small middle part between pages) is pressed against the glass.
Now most books are scanned by making photo using camera and such routine no longer make lot of sense.
As here you need good page flattening algorithm, may be lens distortion correction and also perspective correction (if camera is not exactly placed).
At the design time of first ST versions it made sense to have text lines correction at the last stage (but even this is questionable), but now this must be done at first stages during flattening and perspective correction.
