OpenNI and NITE installed and work; Sketches Error: Can't open device: no devices found #88

Open GoogleCodeExporter opened 8 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 8 years ago
What steps will reproduce the problem?
1.Run Processing 2.1 example included in example library: SimpleOpenNI ->
OpenNI -> DepthImage (same problem with all examples)

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?

     * SimpleOpenNI DepthImage Test
     SimpleOpenNI Version 1.96
     After initialization:
SimpleOpenNI Error: Can't open device: DeviceOpen
     using default: no devices found

Can't init SimpleOpenNI, maybe the camera is not connected!

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
OpenNI_NITE_Installer-win32-0.27
Windows Vista x64 SP2
Kinect model 1414

Please provide any additional information below.
OpenNI and the PrimSense Kinect drivers are installed correctly as the OpenNI
Samples work perfectly (i.e., NISimpleRead, NIViewer)

having exact same issue here. Non-processing samples with OpenNI and NITE work
fine, but this error comes up when trying to run Open Kinect and SimpleOpenNI
example sketches in Processing 2.1. I'm running 32-bit Windows XP. I've tried
Processing 1.2.1, 1.5.1, 2.1, and downloaded all windows/java updates. Am at a
loss:(

Same thing here on Win7x64. For a while, I was having what I thought was a
driver issue. In Device Manager, PrimeSense showed up fine, Kinect Audio
showed up fine, but I had a device can not start error on the Kinect Camera. I
moved the USB to my front port on the PC case and that error went away. Maybe
there is an issue with connecting to a USB3 port? Either way, even with that
solved, still no device found..

Nope. I was going just skip the Processing and just work on the C++ openni
scriot. Shame, my buddy had it working fine.

Well, its nice to know I'm not the only one with this problem. I have not been
able to get it to work. Tried on Windows Vista x86 and x64, windows 7 x64 and
not able to get any farther. I guess I'll be using C++ libraries as well.
Thanks, everyone.

Hello,

I am having same issue when trying to run any example sketch that comes with
SimpleOpenNI:

==> "Can't init SimpleOpenNI, maybe the camera is not connected!"

I tried with Processing 2.1 & 2.0.3, both give same error

I am using:
- Windows 7 32-bit
- OpenNI 1.3.4.3
- Kinect Sensor 5.0.3.4
- NITE 1.4.2.42

Also I did the below:
- I made sure only PrimeSense drivers are there and used, and no Windows kinect
driver is installed
- I never installed Microsoft Kinect SDK
- I was able to successfully run OpenNI and PrimeSense Sample programs

Yet no way to use the kinect in Processing.

Appreciate any help or notification on this issue, and if possible to increase
the priority of this defect to High, given that this is the only library for
processing that really captures most of the kinect capabilities, yet it is
broken so far.
Thanks
f.

Hi,

It is working for me now. By installing windows kinect SDK v1.7 on top of
OpenNI, Kinect sensor and NITE, and ignoring the warnings on internet about
OpenNI not being compatible with microsoft SDK. I don't know how but i have
microsoft kinect drivers and PrimeSense ones in my device manager and it is
working fine.

I can now use the examples provided in the simpleopenNI for processing

thanks
f.

Same problem here, but with OSX (10.8.5) and processing 2.1.1. Exact error is:

SimpleOpenNI Version 1.96
After initialization:

SimpleOpenNI Error: Can't open device: DeviceOpen using default: no devices
found

I also have encountered the same problem on Processing 2.1.2 on Max OS X
(10.7.5). I followed the installation instructions on the official wiki. Same
error. Anyone found a fix for this?

Thanks!

Curious - has anyone figured a way out of this error w/out installing Kinect
SDK? I'm on a 32 bit system.

It also does not seem to be fixed like this with v2 Kinect, still cant get it
to work, is there maybe another way to define the used Kinect other than new
SimpleOpenNI(this) ?
