Android App for setup on mobile device #156

It would be great to have support for the app functionality available on android too. I am often without computer and then... How to check which slot is assigned to what? How to add/change passwords? (these two Features are most missi g by me on android...)

onlykey commented 3 years ago

You can use the on the go feature to type out slot labels into a text editor on Android by holding down button #2 for 5+ seconds. Unfortunately there is not an app to modify passwords, it would be possible to use the onlykey-cli on Android but we have not tested this.

I tried to compile the cli under termux, no success (missing dependencies).

Cli is not very user-friendly way,, but sufficient for me. If there would be a build (apk) available...

@onlykey please do not let this support request just fade away. I know i cannot be the modern day minority here, in that i do not have a computer and haven't for two years now. End of last year i opted to spend my limited tech budget on modernizing two 5+year old Samsung phones to Pixel 7&pro for partner and i including buying 4 OK Duo instead of buying laptop. I was somehow confused by the description on Amazon that i could safely configure and access full functionally using my Android phone only. it is beyond disappointing to see that after all these years ago when i bought my first onlykey it still has not developed an Android interface, especially as phones have become as powerful as last years computers and arguably more secure than nearly any OS i see more and more people like me, and instead of being unfortunate to not have a laptop to use like we are, more will simply opt to go phone(/+tablet) only for a hundred excellent reasons.

please forgive any slight you feel may be communicated by me, i have combat injuries that result in cognitive issues. i mean only to plead with you to develop an Android app asap, or at least a secure website interface that brings full app functionally, including flashing updated firmware to OK & OK Duo for the billion+ of Android and iPhone users to use. If i could code i would, but i cannot.

please get this on roadmap or close issue pinned to top stating No Smartphone support beyond TOTP/yubikey basic function.

Thank you for reading, and i pray you give serious consideration to the very valid and likely soon common case use by those who have no computer at all!

Hi, unfortunately we have no plans to develop and Android or iOS app at this time. The reason being the app would have to be built from scratch and we do not have a developer that specializes in this. The desktop app is cross-platform for Windows, Mac, Linux, and Chrome OS.

perhaps a browser extension is possible in reach? on chrome it still won't help no computer smartphone users, but on FireFox one could get extension from store not on FF Android recommended list by creating a personal addon collection/list which would allow smartphone users on smartphone to benefit from full value of your awesome crypto tools and key!

if this too is too far to get there then please do consider making it very clear on all websites offering for sale as well on packaging itself that a computer Must be used for initial OK setup for all but simplest TOTP/Yubi use on Android and iOS. i don't feel cheated or misinformed rather i made assumption seeing chrome (and FireFox?? is it full app addon somewhere?) symbol(s) on package and dropped near $400 on 4x 🆗Duo and two more 🆗 originals for partner and i. we have budgeted for laptop by midsummer so this is painful but tolerable news from you. at least it fills 2fa as hardware key for Android, but won't do TOTPAuth as basic key, unless I'm messing that up..

Also consider mark this issue as Won't do and close it, that would be better clear signal to those like me that hang on to hope for way too long most times..

Peace ✌️🕊️🪖✊👍

@ipfreer Yes you can use TOTP on Android and iOS, this describes how to do that - https://docs.onlykey.io/usersguide.html#google-authenticator-otg https://docs.onlykey.io/mobile.html#androidios-static-password-totp-and-yubikey-otp-support
