Linear movement wording #11

In the third paragraph, the authors refer to "largely linear movement" of the virus. Although such a description becomes meaningful later in the paper when the authors start specifying antigenic dimensions, at this point in the introduction it is unclear what the virus is moving through in a linear fashion.
