Where should it take place? My suggestion is up north again in Littondale. The cottages we booked for accommodation were big enough to have a conference in, thus leaving Lindsey and Helen's home their own.

There is also a very large house directly opposite the cottages you stayed in last time:

They used to all be managed by the same family (all part of Stonelands) but they've separated it out.

It has 6 bedrooms and is designed for 12-14 people - we would only sleep 6-9 of us there but the communal spaces, dining table, lounge etc are much more suited to our size of group.

The downside is that there is no broadband. And no 3G signal. However, the cottages only have unreliable wifi, so it would be much safer for people to assume they will be off grid for their sessions - we can have an 'open wifi' period at our house for folk to come and grab stuff. I'll also talk to them about whether they have plans to put broadband in, because if they do then within our budget we could pay for that to happen.

We could book this for the first 6-8 people and then overspill into the cottages at Stonelands when we reach those numbers? It is available for the week that we need.

The WiFi at the cottages was fine, you just had to be roughly in line of site. This time I was planning on brining an extender to re-broadcast the signal in whichever cottage I was in :)

Limited broadband might be difficult to sell to people from companies - a conference for a week is fine, but if a tech person goes for a week and is non-contactable even for emergencies, that might not be possible. Also, my IQ drops even further without the web as my memory.

I think that's ok - it'll be about 50:50 cottages and house anyway - so people who need the constant wifi can go for the cottages?

Folks can also use the pub and my house for picking up work stuff - we just wouldn't have it on-tap during the sessions, but that's always been the case at Centre Parcs too?

I'll see what the score is on getting broadband added in the house though - but I think the 'retreat' bit is important too. The PIA factor I've seen people experience from bosses who wanted to yank their chain all the way through is a real drain on people's energy.

As Helen always says... in a real emergency you need Fire, Police or Ambulance ;)

The idea of working on an open-source project without access to that project's web site, bug-base, documentation, source code repository etc sounds a bit difficult.

Aye - the pairing would happen up at ours (or in the cottages if the connection is up to it) for that reason - was just thinking main sessions in the big house.

Broadband in cottages was good enough to stream video, just in certain places. Mostly remember window sills.
