damn, i don't remember exactly what was it but this was relevant (at least on MacOS), do you know what var is getting cleared that shouldn't?

Na, don't know, just know it couldn't find the C compiler, see the error message in #21

better to merge it as two different people have to same issue, i'll pick it up on MacOS and see what's up
