Jet Pack feedback #5522

Short Description of the issue:

Jetpack in Starship EVO reminds me of the Light Assault's Jump Pack from the game Planetside 2, but done differently.

Boosting in short bursts feels a bit unpredictable and unintuitive, especially when the player needs to break quickly before hitting the ground or needs a high dose of precision when climbing or maintaining altitude (think Flappy Bird). I would change it for a continuous boost as long as the player holds the boosting key and as long as there's fuel in the tank.

Horizontal boost (accessed by holding the Shift key) feels intrusive and out of place when running around. I would remove it and introduce improved horizontal mobility when using the vertical boost instead. In practice it would enable players to strafe sideways as long as they are boosting upwards.

Vertical boost feels underpowered and lasts too long. I think it should provide a stronger acceleration but shorter duration (3-4 seconds at maximum). Stronger boost would also help with decelerating before hitting the ground and dying of fall damage.

The replenishment rate should take 2-3 times as long as consumption rate in order to make climbing too high impossible. The current balancing in that regard feels just right.

I based my feedback based off of how the Icarus Jump Jet feels when playing Planetside 2's Light Assault class. Video's below (no need to watch it all, just the first 15-20 seconds).

The only change compared to the Icarus would be better breaking deceleration and better sideways mobility when boosting to provide an well-rounded and reliable boosting experience.

@Kaiser-Indrasil Well horizontal boost is there because I want the player to be able to move swiftly at first, as the pre-hovercraft gameplay is gonna be tedius!

But I agree for the rest, I am also not convinced with the horizontal boost but I need an answer to my mobility problem.
