Survival Closed Test: Second Impact #5893

Open tsunamayo opened 4 months ago

tsunamayo commented 4 months ago

So I want to do a second run on the survival now that I have more components (power cell, warp, achievements and help). I will open the access to more people.

Please anwser to this post with your steam Id number and I will add you to the beta. (You are automatically enrolled if you where part of the first test). Please keep in mind it is not for you to have fun (as it likely will be frustrating at this stage), but rather to help me improve the game! If you dont plan to actively report issues and post feedback on the github then it is better for you to wait for a more fleshed out version to come out.

Points I would like to focus on:

  1. As always I need to track down more bugs, I know especially I should have a few relative to inventory that are hard to reproduce but unfortunately game breaking.
  2. I would also like to assess the impact of a limited player inventory. How painful is it really, considering we have the mineral scanner? I still want to clarify if we really need hovercraft at a lower tech tree or not.
  3. This time we should go deeper into space, get some pearl on the starting system and warp to a new system. Which means I would like to know of what gets in the way in term of dealing with spaceship and navigating space in a survival context. I expect there will be quite some work improving this

Cheers Francois

I would like to join, but I don't see why this has to be so badly gated, and behind Github no less. I prefer reporting on Steam Forums when I can, which seems to make the most sense since the platform is steam; but alas my days beta testing for NDA Stuff have kinda worn my patience thin for the past (I worked on One of Eco's Closed betas the first round wasn't so bad, but the second triggered me badly, and Did some minor QA Stuff in older Second Life products, and also have a firm understanding of the concepts (if not the direct language) behind coding.) If you think you can use me, here's my Steam ID: 76561198067926654

Although Warping to a new system was always a challenge for me in the past because even when I had a fully warp-capable ship (on main branch) it would kinda send me there but the ship would be lost in the void (atleast I think that's what happened, suddenly I'd engage the drive and suddenly be alone in a void wearing a pressure suit with no space craft; strangely enough they still showed up on the teleporter list and when teleported to just kinda took me to a random point in space near out of bounds edge of the map. Mind you it's been a few updates since I tried that, I just assumed the FTL feature was WIP at the time)

When will we have a dedicated survival login? Currently, despite being logged into the experimental branch, the only choice I have is for creative. This kinda defeats any testing as everything is still crative. Cant test viability if it does not exisit.

I'd share some feedbacks we can discuss, let me know if that's not the right place, I'll move it somewhere else.

About how to start the survival, good examples to me are:

  1. I played No Man's Sky where you start by fixing an existing damaged ship. The ship tells you "My engine is broken, insert 50 cobalt to fix this". You'll have to grab ores around, & discover the survival mecanics you'll have to perform all along the game (e.g: reload air filters, survival system of the suit, oxygen to breath, why not hydrogen or electricity for the jetpack). Then the damaged ship will require basic crafted stuff like metal plates in order to let you take off. The starting planed is hostile since it act like a natural countdown to death if you ignore the survival things, & let you the pleasure to find comfort on another planet you chose yourself.
  2. I played Craftopia, where absolutely everything you nudge (tree, rock, animal) bring a success notification with progress bar like "You took 5 wood [== ] 5/100" then you unlock an achievement like "Congrats! You now have 100 wood". You have a list of achievements to unlock, the new one will be a tool requiring 100 wood. It's not technically a tech tree because you can bypass it if another player give you a tool, but that's just the reward mechanism
  3. I played Eco where dedicated rooms are required to place some blocks & have them working. E.g. I want to add a bed. The bed will check it is placed in a box of blocks, and the box only contains bedroom elements. If so, I get a big bonus of permanent experience points multiplicator. Everything that give experience points will grow faster, because I have a house with a proper bedroom. Everytime I unlock a room type by placing only meaningful blocks inside, I can use the related blocks, e.g. the hoven will only work in a kitchen. Could be transposed for medbay/medical stuff, enginee room, electric locker, cockpit etc, and adjusted if we only want bonuses or require this to be able to turn it on. This really give a logic to build bases in that game. In Eco, it's a tech tree where you unlock parts on a announced time bar basis you can speed up by following rules giving experience multiplicators. Let's say the game tells you whatever you do, you'll unlock thrusters in 5 days, earning 5 XP points every minutes, you can unlock them in 2 days if you build a ship with a cockpit room (door, seat, joystick & screen) because you now earn 10 XP points by minute

Hello, I am a new user of Starship Evo and I want to help improve this project from the start, I haven't even played creative yet, my intentions are to offer a unique perspective of how the game feels in regards to its systems and of course the needed bug reporting due per your interest.

My intentions will be to start with reviewing the current state and addressing in your threads were inquired as coming from your second wave invitation.

Hi I am a veteran for the game Empyrion: Galactic Survival with over 1600 hours. I have been waiting many years for a game that is similar to Empyrion with things like Voxel based ship construction, survival and crafting, planet and space exploration, and of course both ground and vehicle combat. I have made many mods for empyrion and uploaded ships to the workshop for others to enjoy. I would love to see how your game compares and offer my advice. Steam ID: 76561198140227661
