I love that idea! I will totally give it a shot when I get to this. Yes I want shipyard of different size where your ship can be respawned or repaired, so bigger shipyard will be more rare. Thanks!
Now that the repair tool is in the game, I was thinking how one would repair entire ships. Now the obvious place would be a shipyard or repair station or whatever as repairing everything by hand would be awful. Once content like that is added of course. One option is having a lot of AI drones moving about (not yours) repairing every block but that could get a little taxing. Instead I propose a different type of total ship repair, a repair wall.
https://imgur.com/e7P9xDo In a repair station or shipyard when parked, a player or the AI can activate a repair wall. It moves slowly down the allotted area repairing the ship row by row. This way, the power, the speed, the size can be balanced to make it so larger ships can't just get insta-fixed and players who set this up have to plan ahead rather then just slap it down and have it working. Lots of power needed to repair a larger ship. The image above, though in the show is the exact opposite of a repair wall has the general visual idea.
https://imgur.com/dyyJRgK This is a concept of the block which I totally didn't re-texture a Minecraft jukebox. Like the laser sensor, they must be "looking" at each other. All it takes is a switch and it activates creating a force field like glass wall. Imagine the clear glass canopy in a line. Adding more on top will increase the height of the wall. Note that you can't make a repair cube, that would be dumb. After that, stick it on a slider, get a ship into the repair dock, and activate repair wall. When the wall passes over a broken block, it will repair it. This way an entire ship can be repaired without worry that a bit of hidden damage will go unnoticed.
As an aside, this sort of model can lead to actual force fields, but that is for another time.
This doesn't mean healing drones wouldn't be in the game, just that for larger ships at AI stations or player stations, it will be easier on the computer without removing the cool factor.
