XLD update sometimes removes LogChecker support #216

Open GoogleCodeExporter opened 9 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Update XLD
2. Log Checker might get disabled
3. no Log Checker option in XLD Menu and no Log Checksums for new rips

How about the reproducibility (always, sometimes, rarely, ...)?

This seems to occur at random. This happened to me with the 20130127 to
20130407 update, but the latest update went fine. However, a couple other
people had this issue with the 20130720 to 20131102 version update. I was
unable to reproduce the error with the latest update.

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?

The expected output is to continue seeing Log Checksums appended to rip logs.
However, updating XLD may sometimes remove this functionality so logs do not
show Log Checksums any longer. Reinstalling the LogChecker.bundle seems to
resolve this issue. However, users may not notice this since it is expected
that once you install Log Checker functionality, most do not expect it to
randomly disappear.

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?

This is known to happen with at least the 20130407 and 20131102 updates. I
assume the issue is present across multiple XLD versions. The operating system
I used is 10.8.x

Please provide any additional information below.

Well, do you mean .bundle exists in ~/Library/Application Support/XLD/PlugIns,
but XLD doesn't load it after update? Or .bundle itself disappears from the
directory?

If you install .bundle to XLD.app/Contents/PlugIns, it will be removed after
update.

Hello,

Since the issue happened to me many months ago (20130407 update), I cannot
remember if the bundle file was present or not after the update. But since it
appears that others I know are also experiencing this issue after a recent
update, I proceeded to file a bug report.

The bundle file was placed in ~/Library/Application Support/XLD/PlugIns as per
the instructions. However, we do not recall whether the file was still present
or if it disappeared after update. According to one report, the user had to
place the bundle file into the directory again to regain functionality. He
doesn't recall if the file was already present or not though.

XLD doesn't touch the contents in ~/Library/Application Support/XLD/PlugIns
directory. So determining
1) .bundle exists in the directory, but XLD doesn't load it after update
or
2) .bundle disappears from the directory after update
is important. Anyway I haven't experienced the issue. LogChecker.bundle exists
since a year ago in my plugin directory and there are 6 updates, but none of
them kills the plugin. I also have other encoder/decoder plugins in the
directory and they are the same. So I cannot take any action until this becomes
clear.
