Encoding slowing down #219

Closed GoogleCodeExporter closed 9 years ago

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Start to encode a folder of FLAC tracks
2. Encoding speed will drop quickly

How about the reproducibility (always, sometimes, rarely, ...)?
Always

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
I expect XLD (or its internal encoder) to encode at a consistent pace.

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
20131102, OS X 10.9.

Please provide any additional information below.
Running on an Intel 4670k, i.e. a so-called "hackintosh".

I initially get ~10x the realtime speed on the first track, but on the second
encode it drops to ~0.7x. The speed does not increase for the next encodes.
I've tried running 2 and 4 threads but no change was noted.

The conversion I'm doing is FLAC -> ALAC. Sample & bit rate is same as original.

Turns out my hard drive was just really slow. Ticking "Use temporary folder,
then move to the destination" made the transcodes go in ~100x realtime, thanks
to the SSD that OS X is on. I think I'll just stick to 2 threads though; when
using 4 it moves all the files at the same time which is very slow (and also
hangs XLD, for some reason).

Awesome application!
