Nvalt no longer sees notes. #192

A weird one.

Out of the blue. Nvalt can no longer read from (or write to) the notes directory I'd set up in dropbox.

Other apps (Mac & iOS) can.

Huh.

Weirder still, when I copied all of my notes to a new folder NV couldn't see those either, yet when I copied the (all-but-the-last-backup) notes to my dropbox/apps/byword directory and pointed NV at that all is well.

This also effects Notational Velocity.

Any ideas?

I've had this issue too - Nvalt reverted back to using it's folder in application support for note storage and I cannot get it to read my notes folder in dropbox even when I select it in the preferences pane.

Here's what worked for me.

  1. Limit the number of apps that have access to the notes folder. I may have had way to many apps reading and, more importantly, storing a settings file or plist file in that folder.
  2. Delete all non-note files, especially the "Notes & Settings" file(s).
  3. Restart NValt and point it at your notes folder.

Hope this helps.

This is really weird. I tried what you suggested, with no luck. So I deleted the "Notes & Settings" file in the dropbox folder and then replaced it with the "Notes & Settings" file that was still in the Application Support folder - and viola, restored!

Thanks for your help - it got me on the right path.

I had this problem, too. When I deleted the Notes & Settings file from the Dropbox folder (the same one I use for Simplenote) and replaced with with the version in my Application Support subfolder for Notational Velocity, the files reappeared. But they were the files in my Notational Velocity subfolder of Application Support, not the files in my Dropbox subfolder.

Not sure what's going on here.
