nvALT directory select problem #484

Open 30thirteen opened 6 years ago

30thirteen commented 6 years ago

nvALT fully stopped working about a week ago. I deleted it and reinstalled. Still wouldn't work. Then used AppCleaner to "fully" delete it. Reinstalled. It opens.

With this error:

Unable to initialize notes database in ~/Library/Application Support/Notational Data because the volume does not exist.

When I try to select a different folder (where I keep my text files) it does not give me any options.

Thanks for the help! screen shot 2017-11-21 at 8 30 22 am

I believe I saw this mentioned by people who were installing fresh. Something isn't writing new preferences correctly, so it's only flawless if you're upgrading with valid existing preferences. I'm not certain what the workaround is yet, but do you have a preference plist you could restore from Time Machine?

30thirteen commented 6 years ago

Thanks.

I copied over the plist from my other machine. That didn't work. I also tried copying over the notes & settings file.

It's odd that it says "volume not found" because it is actually there.

I've attached the plist to see if you have any suggestions. Also a screenshot of the file locations in case I've bunged something up.

I can confirm this by moving the directory to the other location. The way I fix is moving back to the previous path and setup new one.

nvALT problem: can't choose storage folder (Notational Velocity is working 100%)

I'm setting up new MacBook Pro and I also cannot choose the OTHER folder for storage for nvALT. I set up a folder in Dropbox, but cannot choose it. I also moved the folder from Library/Application Support into Dropbox, but cannot choose it there or in Library/Application Support

I'd been using Notational Velocity which updated smoothly with SimpleNote sync.

What should I do to SELECT a storage folder for nvALT in preferences? thanks, Etana

Nor can I choose the "use individual files."

Co-sign. I'm also having this problem.

timster211 commented 6 years ago

I have the exact same problem.

debaser42 commented 6 years ago

Same problem.

Exact same problem here. Can't open Dropbox Folder or select individual notes.

Also, when I thought I would try to write to a new folder, and maybe bring old notes in there, every keystroke is doubled and I cannot get into the body of the note from the title.

same

same problem

Solution that worked for me: recreate the previous location as an empty folder and only then I was able to switch to the new folder.

nedzb commented 6 years ago

That worked for me. Thanks!
