Hard tabs word wrapping #82

Open fuzzy76 opened 12 years ago

fuzzy76 commented 12 years ago

I have soft tabs off, keep readable body width off and still nvalt seems to wrap my lines (in the middle of the window) when I attempt to make a table using tabs. Shrinking the window causes nvALT to move the wrap point to the left, but never right of the "magic point". Lines ligned up using spaces does not show this behaviour.

Using nvALT 2.1 (74) on OS X Lion 10.7.3.

Just let me know if you need any more info.

Or basically if you insert a tab after 12 tab stops, it's inserted on a new line. It happens in many other apps like WriteRoom as well. And in TextEdit in rich text mode if you haven't changed the default ruler.

But I'd prefer the default ruler to basically have infinite tab stops as well. Many of my notes contain tab-delimited data, but I can't really use NV or WriteRoom to edit them because of this behavior.

Same here. I have a bunch of files with tabs that don't display properly in nvALT. Would love to be able to use nvALT with those.

can you send me an example .txt file? email it to elasticthreads att gmail.com with the subject "Hard tabs word wrapping"

also, @fuzzy76, I'm not exactly sure what you mean here. Are you saying you'd like nvALT to not wrap your text no matter what and implement horizontal scrolling?

not sure what a "magic point" is.

OR, are you just referring to the 12 tab stops limit @ghost mentioned?

also, and sorry for the multiple follow ups, please make sure you're using the most up to date version of nvALT when reporting bugs. I might have already fixed some of your issue! Right now that's v2.2 (105). OK, it's technically a "beta". But at this point, I'm pretty sure its better and less buggy in every way than 2.1.

You can download it here: http://brettterpstra.com/2012/02/28/nvalt-2-2-public-beta/

As I said, readable width was off, which would imply that nvALT should only wrap at the right end of the window. And the wrap happened in the middle of my window. So it wasn't a normal text wrapping, it just wrapped at a fixed position which might have been the 12 tab stops limit.

However, I have migrated all my notes to Evernote now, so I won't be able to tell if the bug is fixed or not in newer versions. I guess you could test this by using tab as tabs, opening a very large window and use tab to create a 13x13 table of some sort.

Just wanted to confirm that the bug is still present in v2.2b (111). If it would be helpful to look again at the demonstration files that I created, you can find them my email from Apr 10 2013 with the subject line "Hard tabs word wrapping". If you want me to resend the email, just let me know.
