This PR merges modules with semantically similar functionalities. E.g. the modules reports and log_manager serve semantically coherent purposes. In order to reduce code complexity they have to be merged. The PR also includes a few smaller miscellaneous changes I made during the refactoring process (e.g. removing unused imports.)
