It's not python 3 compliant.
reproducing: start with python3 ;)

I've had problems getting python3 compliant code to work with python2.x. I 
assumed it was better to be compatible with 2.x than 3.x, if I had to choose 
one.

Also, I fear change!

I'll run 2to3 on it and see what, oh, oh no, not like this
