The Barcode of Life (http://www.barcodinglife.org) provides stable DNA barcodes 
for species.
The GBIF data portal should integrate with the BoL and support indexing of 
occurrence records 
which have a BoL barcode.  Additionally, it should provide links from the 
species names to the BoL 
web site.
