A map highly populated with low-to-mid level creatures is struck with the plague, with incoming waves of zombies and anyone being killed by a zombie also turning into one.
Killing zombies grants XP to the survivors, which is automatically applied as classes (Commoner and Warrior only, probably). Critical hits instantly kill zombies.
Would be nice to filter out any zombie combatants with a gray filter.
This isn't a full-fledged idea yet - how to handle loot is still an open question (some idea of scavenging the map for loot crates would be nice but hard to generate on-the-fly), as is the notion of making it more strategically interesting than an all-out zombie fest (which it doesn't need to be, necessarily).
Many games (notably modern FPS) have zombie-wave modes. Looking at them might be an inspiration for mechanics and keeping things interesting on a level other than the bare-bones survive-each-wave.
