Hello!
Only one sidebar. Think of that space on the right as where ads would go. This is where we would put inhouse ads, such as "Submit a story". There should only be one primary point of navagation, which is the left. Take a peek here: http://www.ushmm.org/
The right is just direct links to Calls to Action, whether it be "email us" or Featured/Important articles.
It's just another place for Hot Content... don't think of it as another Navigation menu..
OK The current horizontal Nav needs to turn into the left Nav. The horizontal layout of that needs to be removed, and those items should display in the left column.
Other clean up: "Community" goes away "Links" goes away "Archives" goes away
I think there might be a widget called "Custom Menu". We might be able to drop our "main menu" into the custom menu wudget, and then drop Custom Menu into the left column module...?
I'll look into it.
Alright I changed things around. The top menu NEEDS to have at least one item, otherwise it becomes completely messy. I left the organization list on top, and moved the rest to the side. I'm looking into a way to hide the right sidebar's default stuff. Lacking that, creating a series of 1 link menus might work for call to actions.
Gotcha.
I wonder if there is something in the PHP that we can delete so that menu goes away. I don't know enough to tinker without breaking. Might have to call the Doc on this one..
I been playing around with it a bit, seeing what I can do. I definitely understand a bit more now than I did earlier. As far as the right menu.. so long as we have pages set up, we might be able to have just those items there. For now I have a "recent posts" and "recently added" gallery images to hold the spot and keep it looking neat. This way that long list isn't present. I also got rid of the long pages list at the bottom of the site, and disabled the slideshow until we decide what we are going to do with it.
A possible option as appeared, and I don't know if there is a way to put it to the right (there might be a way to code that, but I do not know at the moment), but if you look at the most recent post I made, New and exciting, scroll to the bottom. Posts can be found via the right sidebar (last 3 posts are shown there, now), and the posts tab at the top. I assume that is more along the lines of what we need?
excellent. this stage of side bar is complete. closing the ticket
Ideally we have two sidebars, a left one and a right one. The current theory is for the right sidebar to be major navigation points. However, left sidebar, what specifically should be shown here, and in what order, if someone has a preference? I can get it done in about 15 minutes, probably, but lacking a clearly defined list, I need some opinions here..
