:loudspeaker:Call for short papers at the Trustworthy AI Workshop @ IJCAI 2024 In recent years, an overwhelming body of work has been done on fairness and robustness in machine learning (ML) models. This is expected given the increasing use of ML models to support decision-making in high-stakes applications such as mortgage lending, hiring, and diagnosis in healthcare. Trustworthy AI aims to provide an explainable, robust, and fair decision-making process. In addition, transparency and security also play a significant role in improving the adoption and impact of ML solutions. Currently, most ML models assume ideal conditions and rely on the assumption that test/clinical data comes from the same distribution of the training samples. However, this assumption is not satisfied in most real-world applications; in a clinical setting, we can find different hardware devices, diverse patient populations, or samples from unknown medical conditions. On the other hand, we need to assess potential disparities in outcomes that can be translated and exacerbated in our ML solutions. Particularly, data and models are often imported from external sources in addressing solutions in developing countries, thereby risking potential security issues. The inconsistency between the data and model with the population at hand also poses a lack of transparency and explainability in the decision-making process. This workshop aims to bring researchers, policymakers, and regulators together to discuss ways to ensure security and transparency while addressing fundamental problems in developing countries, particularly when data and models are imported and/or collected locally with less focus on ethical considerations and governance guidelines. :star2:Relevant topics Transparency, explainability, interpretability in ML models. Security and privacy concerns in ML models. Misinformation detection. Data poisoning and adversarial examples. Audit techniques for data and ML models. Fairness and exclusion studies (benchmarks and datasets). Evaluation for ensuring fair outcomes for all, especially underrepresented groups. Robustness, safety, and collective value alignment, with a specific interest in measures that support developing countries and underrepresented communities. Social good, participatory AI, and applications of the above principles to different domains (e.g. healthcare, loans, legal). :page_with_curl:Instructions If you’re interested in presenting your work, please submit a 4-page paper (4 pages for content and 2 for references) following the IJCAI Author Kit format at https://cmt3.research.microsoft.com/TrustAIWorkshop2024. All submissions will be double-blind peer-reviewed by program committee members, with at least 2 submitted reviews per work. :spiral_calendar_pad:Important Dates Submission deadline: April 26th Paper notification acceptance: June 4th

The School of Mathematical Sciences at Lancaster University is seeking to appoint multiple full academic positions under our new £15M investment in “Mathematics for AI in Real-world Systems” programme. In this round of recruitment we have a prof, 2 senior lecturer and 2 lecturer posts, and a senior research software engineer role. These posts will form an inaugural cadre of high-quality researchers conducting research and teaching at the interface of mathematical modelling and AI. They will focus on the mathematical principles, computer science and/or implementation underpinning application areas including Health, Environmental Science, Manufacturing Engineering, and Cybersecurity within a new unit aimed at addressing real-world challenges through a mathematical and AI lens. “MARS: Mathematics for AI in Real-world Systems” is an exciting new £15M investment at Lancaster University, expanding on our excellence in impactful and industrially engaged research. Bringing in 10FTE new academic posts, with associated research staff and PhD students, MARS will revolutionise Lancaster’s research capacity in mathematics connecting systems modeling and AI methods, to support its flagship strategies in the applied sciences of Manufacturing, Environmental Science, Health, and Cybersecurity. New undergraduate and postgraduate programmes will accompany this, providing opportunities to address a major skills-gap in the principles underlying AI and their application to real-world systems. These activities will reach out to industry and government partners as regional, national, and global leaders in next-generation mathematics. With E3 funding, MARS will become a unique national capability in the North West, pushing the boundaries of AI-driven modelling to tackle key challenges in the modern world. Combined with the recently-announced ProbAIhttps://www.lancaster.ac.uk/news/lancaster-leads-on-new-9-million-mathematics-for-ai-research-hub, a £9m EPSRC-funded AI Hub based out of the same department, it is an exciting time to join Lancaster’s research community. If you’re interested in bringing your applied maths, mathematical AI, or mathematical computer science expertise to Lancaster and our beautiful region, drop us a line (d.leslie@lancaster.ac.ukmailto:d.leslie@lancaster.ac.uk or c.nemeth@lancaster.ac.ukmailto:c.nemeth@lancaster.ac.uk or c.jewell@lancaster.ac.ukmailto:c.jewell@lancaster.ac.uk) and/or see the information here: Prof: https://hr-jobs.lancs.ac.uk/Vacancy.aspx?ref=0404-24 SLs: https://hr-jobs.lancs.ac.uk/Vacancy.aspx?ref=0471-24 Ls: https://hr-jobs.lancs.ac.uk/Vacancy.aspx?ref=0449-24 RSE: https://hr-jobs.lancs.ac.uk/Vacancy.aspx?ref=0444-24

Cancer Research UK: Data Community Support Unit Deadline: Open Call

CRUK is building a cancer data science community to support researchers in tackling common challenges, sharing best practices and driving data culture change.

The Data Community Support Unit (DCSU) was recently established to help shape researcher-led data activities and support a connected and collaborative data community. The unit involves six community groups of data experts, each led by a key member of the DCSU governance board, focussing on different research data challenge areas.

CRUK are interested in members of the research data community to join these groups and help develop services and solutions taking a data-intensive approach to support the cancer community. The online form linked below is available for members to volunteer for up to three community groups.

More information and details to register here
